WHO WE ARE

CF GARDENS is a garden design firm based in New Haven, CT, specializing in sacred and sanctuary gardens for public institutions and residential clients. Originally from New York City, we’ve been creating thoughtful and practical rooftop, terrace, backyard and courtyard gardens since 2016. We offer a full range of creative services, from design and installation to ongoing garden maintenance and consultation. We also create and care for specialized  indoor planting designs and offer event-based floral arrangements for home and office.

Our gardens can be found in New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Fire Island, and the east end of Long Island; with clients including Michael Kors, Stephen Schwarzman and Drew Barrymore, Millan House and the Sherry Netherland buildings in Manhattan, and Yale University in New Haven, CT.

APPROACH

We approach gardens as contemplative spaces that invite us to connect meaningfully with the earth, with ourselves, and with one another. We invite our clients into this ethos by creating designs that help us to appreciate the connection between the nature around us and the nature within us. Variously referred to as healing gardens, wellness gardens, sacred gardens and sanctuaries, the spaces we create are designed and planted with an intention of love and an attentiveness to the mystery and wonder that we live within.

Our work blends ecological and social principles with a passion for innovative plantings and sophisticated style. From plant procurement to hiring practices, client engagement and business operations, we have shown that all aspects of our business can be used to create a more just, caring, and enjoyable world.

Christopher Freimuth, Director

Christopher Freimuth is a designer, horticulturist, and founder of CF GARDENS. He has a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Vassar College (2006), a diploma in horticulture from the New York Botanical Garden’s School of Professional Horticulture (2017), and will graduate from Yale Divinity School with a Master of Divinity (M.Div. ‘25) in May 2025. Christopher has been farming and gardening for nearly two decades and absolutely cannot get enough of it. His work has earned him the dually significant title of “Garden Chaplain” — he uses garden design as a form of chaplaincy for his clients, and also serves as a chaplain to the gardens that he and his team steward.
